An air-cooled modular chiller unit installed on the rooftop of a large hotel generated severe vibration and noise after being put into operation, causing serious discomfort in the top-floor guest rooms. To protect the hotel's image and reputation, the owner required the installation contractor to fully resolve the vibration issue.
A site investigation revealed that the original vibration isolation measure consisted only of rubber pads installed between the equipment and the concrete foundation. This solution provided limited isolation performance, allowing vibration to be transmitted through the concrete base to the floor slab. Due to the relatively low stiffness of the floor slab, forced vibration occurred, radiating structure-borne noise into the rooms.
After a careful evaluation and comparison of multiple vibration isolation solutions, the installation contractor selected ALJ-17 spring isolators. Following installation, on-site measurements conducted in the guest rooms using professional instruments confirmed that all results met relevant standards. The vibration and noise reduction performance was highly effective, earning unanimous praise from both the owner and the installation contractor.
